Description

***Water Marks and Logos Updated***

And here is the final update, all shaded and highlighted. Hex the Bat is one of my oldest Sonic fan characters, created not long after I made my Team Eclipse characters. At the time I can admit my imagination for designs were very poor, she just looked like a grey re-colour of Rouge the bat with less hair and wearing rags in an attempt to make her look like a witch. This update was sorely needed to not only distance herself from being a Rouge re-colour, but to also make her look "Prettier" and more interesting in appearance. I would like to thank my friends who not only help me develop her character over the years but also gave me advice and suggestions during this design update.

Also added my recently designed Black Flame Cult Emblem to show her allegiance. Its based off my earlier design for the Order of the White Flame Emblem I did for Gem the Wolf.

PROFILE

Name: Hex the Bat
Nicknames: Mistress Hex, Queen of the Black Flame
Species: Bat
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Alignment: Evil

Back story: Hex comes from a long line of  Dark Witches and Sorcerers who are descended from the long dead Cult of the Black Flame led by Lord Gwynn the Black Beast; a cult that was heavily involved in an ancient magic war with the Order of the White Flame centuries ago. When the war ended with the mystical imprisonment of the leaders of both sides, the followers and relics scattered and faded into memory along with the magic they wielded save for three. One of these was an orb containing the last of the Black Flame, the source of the cult's power without Lord Gwynn to create more, this orb was entrusted to one family to guard and keep safe until the day Gwynn is released from his prison and the cult can be reborn. Over the centuries, this family handed down the duty of guardianship of the orb and the dark magics to the next generation, all the way down to Hex's in the present day.

Hex's parents were very skilled in dark magic and taught her and her older brother Hocus everything they knew, and while Thrall didn't have the stomach for the darker elements, Hex proved very adept at it, summoning her first demon minion at the age of 6; a small winged creature who she kept as a playmate and servant named Claw. However despite her skill, her brother Hocus got the most attention from their father due to being the eldest and being the subject of his latest scheme. Hex's father was an overly ambitious Sorcerer and unlike his ancestors didn't see the point in waiting around for Lord Gwynn to return, when they can simply create a new Master using the power of the Black Flame inside the orb they were guarding for centuries. This plan was against their sacred duty, as they were only meant to keep the flame safe but never use it for risk of snuffing it out, but Hex's father was confident in his plan to use the Flame to turn his son into the next Gwynn.

So for a long time, Hex was mostly ignored by her father who was busy trying to train Hocus to be a powerful sorcerer before using the Black Flame, leaving Hex to be taught witchcraft from her mother and having Claw as the closest thing to a friend/pet she had. As for Hocus, he was not as talented as his younger sister, nor did he have the heart for the very dark stuff, gaining him the mocking nickname Softheart from Hex. Eventually their father lost patience with his son and decided to use the Black Flame earlier than planned, hoping the corrupting flames would turn Hocus into the dark sorcerer he wanted. The ritual however failed and the Black Flames consumed Hocus and left no trace of him nor the flames; centuries of family duty gone in a single moment of ambition. Although Hex's mother was distraught at the seemingly loss of her son, the father was quick to blame Hocus' weak heart for the failure, ignoring it was his fault for even trying. Hex although a little sad at losing her brother, took her father's side out of both trying to get attention from him and fear of his wrath if she didn't.

With the loss of the last Black Flame and Hocus, the family decided to start a new legacy using the magic abilities they already have, and Hex would be the first in this new line. Her training was long and difficult, particularly thanks to her father's obsession to not repeat the same failure with Hocus, even constantly comparing Hex to her brother in an effort to motivate her to succeed. During this time, the only kindness she got was from her minion Claw and her Mother, who secretly harboured a hatred for her husband after what he did to Hocus and with the way he treated Hex, but she also wished for Hex to become a great Witch, more powerful then herself and her husband together, so she allowed the training to go on while also secretly teaching Hex some tricks of her own such as potions and various poisons. Years went by and Hex grew up to be a formidable witch, developing her own spells such as Hex Marks to control others or grant them special abilities, but despite her immense progress her father still belittled her by saying she wasn't good enough. Eventually on her 18th Birthday Hex discovered her father was dead, poisoned by her mother who had finally had enough of the tyrant she married. Although Hex was deeply shocked at this turn of events, her mother assured her that her father was only holding her back and that she was ready to go out into the world to begin her destiny. As a parting Birthday gift she gave Hex a relic that she kept secret from Hex's father, a book called "The Crafters Journal" the only book that described in detail the creation and abilities of one of the ancient relics to survive the War of the Flames, The Omni Rings; a pair of Ruby rings that can enhance the mystical abilities of magic users tenfold and maybe more, or grant non-magic users a few special powers. Created by the Order of the White Flame as a last ditch weapon for their leader, they were never used before the leader enacted his own plan to end the war. The rings had since been lost over the Centuries, but Hex's mother believes her daughter can find the rings and use them to start a new dark age of magic. She left Hex their family home to act as her own secret lair while she left to start a new life for herself, informing her daughter to only seek her out if she was in dire need, but otherwise to leave her alone as Hex should not have any family ties that her future enemies or would-be allies can exploit.

With Claw by her side, Hex started exploring the world in search of the Omni Rings as well as any other magical artefacts that catches her attention. During this they recruited a raven thug called Talon to their group, branded with one of her Hex Marks, the raven gained incredible strength which fitted his role as the Witch's muscle. Team Hex continued their quest, finding or stealing ancient relics that may prove useful to them and causing a bit of random chaos for fun, all the while searching for the elusive Omni Rings. A search that came to the end when they crossed paths with a group of Treasure Hunters called Team Eclipse as one of their members Umbra the Wolf was wielding them. Thus began a heated rivalry between the two groups as Hex would attempt to steal the rings from Umbra or hatch a different plan to obtain another mystical treasure or cause havoc, but Team Eclipse and their friends, including a newly revived Order of the White Flame led by the enigmatic Gem the Wolf, would always thwart her, earning her hatred. But things turned for the better for Hex when Team Eclipse accidentally released the ancient Lord of the Black Flame Gwynn from his prison. The Dark Lord wasted no time in locating what remained of his cult and recruited Hex and her servants into his new Cult, of which Hex was more than happy to join as Gwynn's right hand woman and lover. This turn of events escalated a heated rivalry between treasure hunters and witches, to a small and secret war between the new Cult of the Black Flame and The Order of the White Flame, with Team Eclipse firmly on the side of the Order. With Hex's help, Gwynn has started re-building his old army, recruiting the Nightwings (a dark faction of beastly Babylonian Birds who once served him in ancient times) as well as summoning his own team of elite demon servants to bolster their numbers. But despite all this, their efforts would be thwarted by the heroic Team Eclipse and the Order of the White Flame. These frustrating losses aside, Hex and her Lord are plotting something terrible for the heroes and anyone else who would stand in their way.

Personality: Egotistical, selfish, greedy and cruel, Hex is everything you would expect from an evil witch. The bat is very clever when it comes to evil schemes and even when Gwynn arrived, she was the one who comes up with new ideas to gain power, or make suggestions to improve upon Gwynn's plans. She has a lust for power that she'll do almost anything to quench which explains her attraction and loyalty to Lord Gwynn as he is the most powerful being she knows and the focus of worship of her family, and will serve his every whim with her mind, body and soul. She has a burning hatred for Umbra the Wolf due to him being the wielder of the Omni Rings and for always ruining her schemes. Hex has a habit of calling her enemies by mocking nicknames such as Mutt or Mongrel for Umbra. The witch also has a sort of rivalry with Gem the Wolf, the right hand woman of Arawn the leader of the Order of the White Flame, often the two witches will clash in battle. Hex is often cruel and demanding of those her serve her, often threatening them with torture via her Hex Marks if they failed. The only servant who gets shown any mercy is Claw, her faithful and eternally loyal minion who has been with her since she was a child, Hex has a soft spot for the small demon and often defends him from being bullied by the other demons, though even he isn't immune to her wrath.

Likes: Treasure, Powerful magic, food with a zesty flavour, private time with Gwynn, the Omni Rings, torturing others, reading

Dislikes: Umbra the Wolf, food that is too sweet or spicy, failure, anyone who takes Gwynn's attention away from her.

Team Type: Flight, Brains, Mystic

Abilities: Hex has been trained from a young age in the art of witchcraft and sorcery, she knows many spells, curses, magic rituals, potions and poisons.

- Her favoured form of attacks are purple coloured lightning bolts shots from her hands and ever since being empowered by Lord Gwynn, wielding the power of the Black Flames to burn all that is pure, teleport her minions anywhere in the world and summon demon servants.

- Her signature curse is the Hex Mark, a bat shaped tattoo that she can brand anyone and anything with using her hands. These marks have two different effects depending on who is being branded; if the one being branded is a willing minion they are granted one special ability unique to them (e.g. teleportation, increased strength, energy duplicates, etc). But if the one being branded is unwilling the mark suppresses their free will turning them into mindless servants who obey everything Hex orders them to. No matter what happens all Hex Marks bind the branded to Hex so she can trace where ever they are and inflict extreme pain on them if she wished. The Hex Marks however can be resisted with a strong enough will and can be removed by anti-curse magic or special energy types like the Omni Rings, Power Rings or Chaos Energy.

- She is also working on a new type of Hex Mark, one that will have the best of both effects and more.

- As a bat Hex is able to fly with her wings which are strong enough to carry her and one or two others through the air.

- She can see in the dark and has extra sensitive hearing.

Items/Equipment: Hex has access to many mystical relics and books on magic which are stored in her private study in her lair, but may bring a few of them into the field if they can be useful.
Profession:
Dark Sorceress
Family:
Father(Deceased),  Mother(Missing), Hocus her Brother(???)
Friends/Allies:
Claw the Minion, Lord Gwynn and the rest of the Cult of the Black Flame.
Enemies:
Umbra the Wolf, his team, friends and allies, Gem the Wolf and the rest of the Order of the White Flame.
Home:
Her old family home, now turned secret lair, hidden somewhere within a Dark Forest of black trees.

Fears and Flaws:
Hex may be a powerful witch but she isn't much of a hand to hand fighter as she relies too much on her magic and servants to keep her enemies at bay. Hex has a very large ego and thinks she is superior to everyone apart from her master, this combined with her short temper often what leads her to failure at the hands of Umbra the Wolf, a lowly mongrel in her eyes who manages to stop her over and over again, it probably won't be long before she has a full on meltdown of rage that would shock even her master. Her obsession with gaining the Omni Rings is so great that if the opportunity to get even just one of them arises, she'll take it ignoring whatever situation she may be in or what their current objective is. Hex has developed a fear of Super Forms after being defeated by Team Eclipse powered by the Chaos Emeralds during one of her larger schemes, it left her with the instinct to retreat as fast as you can when a Super Form is on the scene. Although her father has long been dead, she is still haunted by his belittlement of her and there are times when she could hear his words again, calling her a failure and that she'll wind up like her brother. When it comes down to it, deep down Hex is still that little girl trying to impress her tyrant father.

Theme Song: "Under Our Spell" by Daniel Ingram www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKhEVB… - Not so much for the lyrics but for its style and general theme of controlling others, plus the laugh at the end I can totally imagine Hex doing.

Ideal Voice Actor: Kazumi Evans. Specifically her voice for Adagio Dazzle from MLP Rainbow Rocks.

Creator’s Notes: After creating all four members of Team Eclipse I then had to think of an arch-nemesis for them, considering the team dealt with magic artefacts, a witch was a good choice. I basically went with a wicked witch idea when I first designed her with tattered black clothing and gave her no hair as I had the idea if she was human she would be bald. The Hex Mark was an ability I came up with at the start as well as it capabilities. Like many of my characters Hex didn't truly develop as a character until I got involved in RPs with my friends and she got introduced to Gwynn who belonged to one of my friends. Although I still think of her as Team Eclipse's arch-enemy, much like Eggman is to Sonic, Gwynn has since taken over that role and in a way the spotlight as far as the villains go. But with this updated design I hope it'll help inspire me to make Hex a force to be reckoned with in future stories.
